Dealing with the fate of a married woman, A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen has become a theatre classic. Returning to London in 2019, Tanika Gupta’s adaptation sees the play set in 19th century India at a time of social and economic upheaval. So, if you want to see a well-known play with a brand new interpretation, you’ll want to see A Doll’s House.

As a young Bengali woman, Niru (named Nora in the traditional Ibsen play), is a young Bengali woman in a mixed-race marriage to an English bureaucrat. Exoticising Niru, Tom sees his wife as a toy that can be admired. But, as Niru tries to break free from her relationship and her secret, her life suddenly crashes around her.

Even though A Doll’s House was written over 100 years ago, it continues to remain as an iconic play. Last performed in the West End in 2013, don’t miss out on your chance to see the Ibsen masterpiece brought to life in a new fashion at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre.
