Hailed as Britain’s greatest living playwright, Tom Stoppard returns to the West End with his latest play Leopoldstadt. Based on his family fleeing Nazi persecution, Leopoldstadt will follow a Jewish family as they reconcile and re-discover their religious identity throughout the first half of the twentieth century. Challenging audiences to consider demanding subjects, be swept away in the epic drama of Leopoldstadt and book your tickets now.

Vienna in 1900 was the most vibrant city in Europe, humming with artistic and intellectual excitement and a genius for enjoying life. A tenth of the population in Vienna at the time were Jews. A generation earlier they had been granted full civil rights by the Emperor, Franz Josef. Consequently, hundreds of thousands had fled from the Pale and the pogroms in the East and many found sanctuary in the crowded tenements of the old Jewish quarter, Leopoldstadt. As a family rediscover what it means to be Jewish, audiences can expect to see a passionate drama of love, family and endurance unfold.

As well as Leopoldstadt, there are numerous plays receiving their world premiere in the West End. Currently, audiences can see John Malkovich star in Bitter Wheat and look forward to the stage adaptation of The Man in the White Suit, starring Stephen Mangan. But, if you’re wanting to see a brand new play by a culturally prominent playwright, you’ll want to book tickets for Leopoldstadt.
