Returning to the London theatre scene, Sucker Punch jabs its way into the Theatre Royal Stratford East as part of the latest season. Following two young men whose lives are turned upside down by stepping in the ring, the award-winning play captures an essence of belonging in 1980s Britain. Leon and Troy are best mates trying to figure out their place in the world amid mounting unemployment and simmering racial tensions. After finding solace in Charlie’s gym, they start forging their path into the ruthless world of professional sports. A bruising depiction of life in London under Thatcher’s Britain, see what happens to young men in a system that’s set up to fail ordinary citizens.
