Show & Venue Information

Age Restriction: 12+

No day in Britain is complete without a cup of tea. Stirring politics and a spoonful of sugar in the theatre, The Gift analyses the importance of a piping hot drink and how it reflects on your status. So, if you enjoy seeing new theatres at one of the leading off-West End venues, you’ll want to see The Gift.

In 1850’s Brighton, Sarah is an African girl adopted by Her Royal Highness Queen Victoria and brought up alongside royalty. After perfecting her tea etiquette, Sarah is due to return to Africa, but will she go back? In the present day, Sarah is a middle-class black woman living in Cheshire. When her neighbours pay them a visit, they’re asked many questions about our identity.

The Gift is one show as part of the latest season at Theatre Royal Stratford East, including Welcome to Iran, Our Lady of Kibeho and Sucker PunchBut, combining tea and politics is sure to get the nation talking, so don’t miss out on tickets to see The Gift.
