Show & Venue Information

The world premiere of The Man in the White Suit will be performed at the Wyndham’s Theatre later this year. See how relationships are tested against the needle, thread and fabric of a one-of-a-kind suit in a story where developing the best product doesn’t mean instant success. So, if you enjoy shows that blend dramatic twists and turns with a hint of film magic, you’ll want to see The Man in the White Suit.

As the Cambridge scholar Sidney Stratton leaves university, he finds himself at a crossroads when facing his future. Finding employment at a labour mill, Stratton begins to develop the perfect fabric that will impress everyone. Working hard to develop a strong fibre, he eventually makes a gleaming white suit with radioactive, luminous qualities. Celebrated for making a suit that doesn’t stain or wrinkle, his bosses seem impressed until it costs the business. Follow Stratton as he contemplates the stroke of genius he had and what it means for his life.

This is not the first time that a twentieth-century movie has been adapted for the West End, with Ivo van Hove’s stage adaptation All About Eve bringing the golden age of Hollywood brought to London. However, if you’re looking for a play that oozes with British charm as one man fights against the establishment, you’ll want to see The Man in the White Suit.

Did you know?

Stephen Mangan will play Sidney Stratton in The Man in the White Suit, last appearing in The Birthday Party at the Harold Pinter Theatre. Kara Tointon will star alongside Mangan in the production, playing the role of Daphne Birnley.

Released in 1951, The Man in the White Suit ranked 58th in the top 100 British Films, in a study by the British Film Institute.

It is the first time The Man in the White Suit has been adapted as a play for the stage. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for best writing for a screenplay.
