Show & Venue Information

How far would you go in order to survive? That’s what Joe Simpson asked when he scaled mountains in the Peruvian Andes, a story which has now become one of the greatest mountaineering stories around. See the real-life story unfold in Touching the Void, transferring to the Duke of York’s Theatre later this year. Following last year’s world premiere and a short run at Bristol’s Old Vic Theatre, it’s a gripping thriller where every decision made is a matter of life or death. So, if you enjoy plays based on a true story and you’re looking for adventure, you’ll want to see Touching the Void.

In 1985, Joe Simpson and Simon Yates began an epic mountaineering journey, climbing the Siula Grande in the Huayhuash mountain range in the Andes. On the descent, Simpson slips down an ice cliff, left with a broken limb and quickly separated from his climbing partner. Left with no choice but to save Joe, Simon must ration supplies and keep the pair safe at all times. Stuck in perilous conditions, see how the pair are able to return to civilisation and make it to base camp.

Touching the Void rounds off a year of theatre at the Duke of York’s. Tom Burke and Hayley Atwell star in Rosmersholm, with Florian Zeller’s The Son from August to November. Ending the year with a life-affirming, darkly funny and an unbelievable story, Touching the Void is a unique story that you’ll need to see in order to believe.
